Thanks for your interest in Surplus! we still have one or two positions to fill, so if you feel like you fit the bill for any of the vacancies below & want to help us make the festival even better, please fill out the contact form below & we'll be in touch. Please note that all vacancies are unpaid roles at the moment as we're a small festival with a tiny budget, and a Not-for-Profit organisation so we're all volunteers.
ASSISTANT SITE MANAGER
Working with our site manager you'll support them in all aspects of running the festival during the weekend, while supporting the stage managers, the steward, performer & kids area co-ordinators. We're looking for someone with good organisation as well as good practical skills as it's a hands on job. This role includes being responsible for the hour by hour running of the festival when the site manager is off shift. We're looking for someone with previous experience in a similar position. This is only a small festival but the role can be very hectic so you need to be able to work well under stressfull conditions. We'll need you to be available for the week proceeding the festival and up to a week after to get to know the team & help with the build &break. Ideally you'll be local or willing to travel to attend a few meetings beforehand, too. If you think you fit the bill, please fill in the form below, providing brief details of your previous experience & why you think you're right for the role.
Surplus recognises that people like to let their hair down at a festival and sometimes they end up a little worse for wear! we're looking for volunteers to help with the welfare tent over the weekend. this will be shift work, likely 3 shifts of 4 hours over the weekend (though this is to be confirmed). We are particularly looking for people with (in-date) first aid training, and experience in a similar role. You might need to deal with anything from a bump on the head to cuts & bruises to someone that's had too much - so you'll need to be made of sturdy stuff! If this is something you think you can help with, please fill out the form giving some details about why you think you'll be perfect for the job!
Calling all photographers!!! Surplus are seeking one or two individuals that can take professional standard photos for us over the weekend - we're after everything from candid shots of the lovely surplus people to shots of the artists that are suitable as promo material, to images that just capture the feel of the festival. You'll need to be comfortable taking night shots too. This role would suit someone who's just started out perhaps and would like the publicity (we'll happily promote you when we use your material), someone studying photography, a skilled amateur that's happy to do the job for the love of it, or maybe a recent photography graduate - send us your details below (with a link to your work/portfolio if you have it) & we'll be in touch.
We're also looking for someone who can film & edit a short promotional video for us to use on the website & Facebook. Again this would suit a student or graduate. You'll need to be confident that you can capture the essence & energy of surplus - day and night. this might be a role that we're willing to share between a couple of people, so that we can capture more of the festival. we like the idea of some drone filming in there too! We're really open to ideas so please get in touch using the form below - if you can send some links to your previous work too that'd be great, or if you'd prefer to send us some files let us know & we'll be in touch.
